Our Very Special Guests

Janis Ian

Now her fifth decade of writing songs and performing, Janis Ian received her most recent Grammy nomination in 2016, making a total of 10 nominations over the years in 8 categories! (She lost to President Jimmy Carter.) Her last Grammy Award, presented at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony, was for Best Spoken Word Album for her audio book “Society’s Child” (Audible.com). She had stiff competition — President Bill Clinton, First Lady Michelle Obama, Rachel Maddow and Ellen DeGeneres. When she won, she sincerely considered it to be a “stunning upset.” With her inimitable sense of humor, she went on to say “There must be a joke in here somewhere. An ex-president, a First Lady and three lesbians go into a bar…”Janis lends her huge talent to several tracks on CALLING NASHVILLE and is not only a featured lead vocalist and instrumentalist on FADE TO GREY but also performed the piano arrangement on SHADOWS. In addition to this Janis played piano and sang backing vocals throughout the album.

Tracy Nelson

Tracy Nelson’s immense talent is difficult to categorize. She has flirted with psychedelic rock stardom, with her band Mother Earth. She has scored country hits, including a Grammy-nominated duet with Willie Nelson. She has recorded rock and R&B albums to great acclaim. But the common thread through all of Tracy’s music is the blues – and I am really happy that she said yes to appearing on this album. Tracy is a featured Lead vocalist on CALLING NASHVILLE on the track ‘LONG TIME AGO’ and she can also be heard performing backing vocals on several other tracks.
